I've played DS1, DS3 and Elden Ring, i find the formula to be actually kinda boring now, FromSoftware the people behind the games, they found this gameplay formula in 2009 for a game called Demon Souls, they then used that same gameplay formula with minor tweaks and slapped a new skin on and literally released 1 game every 2.5 years using the same formula and they somehow became industry darlings for it.ħ games in 13 years and i haven't even included Demon Souls Remastered. To be fair if you're really into Souls like games, i doubt The Switch is your only console and you'll likely just play Dark Souls on other consoles. I like what you said, Demon's walked so Dark could run. i intended to keep going with Demon's Souls when my PS3 DIED☠️ and i became a full time wii gamer, and stuck with nintendo exclusively ever since for new consoles. I will also say that im quite good at games, but i often stop short of "mastery" with most games, and rarely beat the really big ones. the game really creeped me out and the opaqueness of it all really added to that feeling! I cant compare to the later ones (maybe i should go ahead and get dark souls for switch, eh?) but i will say that the crypticness of demons really matched the foul dankness of the game in general, and i was happy at the time to kind of "feel around in the dark" as it were for progress of any kind. reward while inching through an enemy-filled environment on just a sliver of health, desperately hoping to find a bonfire around the next corner.
